Local Attractions/Sights

Every visitor must see the eerie and spectacular blue hole at Deans (600ft deep). It’s only a few yards from the beach. There are lovely views at Columbus Point on the northern tip of the island. This is where Columbus is reputed to have stopped on his first voyage to the New World. Nearby Cape Santa Maria Beach is judged by many to be one of the most beautiful in the world.

There are a number of pretty churches on the island and the oldest is St Mary’s Church, thought to have been built by the Spanish in the 17th century. The ruins of Adderley’s Plantation recall the era of slavery and the Long Island Museum is the place to find out about the island’s history and culture. It has some interesting artefacts made by the island’s first inhabitants, the Lucayan Arawaks, and some of their cave drawings can be seen in Dunnmore’s Caves.
